Valle de la Orotava

The Valley of the Orotava is the place by which the well knwon Alexander von Humboldt, father of modern geography, was so fascinated by that he later on wrote about this place in his novels, describing the contrast of the land of fire and the deep green color which can be found throughout the valley.

The Valley, which extends along the Teide, is further spread into three different communities: La Orotava, Los Realejos and Puerto de la Cruz. The Valley of La Orotava was the place where the first christian temple was built in the Canary Islands and for the wine lovers the Valley also is very interesting: Here you can find some wineyards with some extensive history. In the XVI, XVII and XVIII century the wine "Malvasia" converted the Port of Puerto de la Cruz into the most important one of the Canary Islands.

The Natural Reserve Pinolere is an ecological space which can be discover by foot and with no doubt this place is one of the most beautiful ones of the Island.

The Valley of La Orotava is for sure worth a visit when you are on the Island of Tenerife and as Humboldt did, you will leave it fascinated by the spectacular views over the ocean, the Teide and the wide forests.
