The Teide National Park

teideThe Teide National Park is located in the highest region of Tenerife. It was declared national park on the 22nd of January in 1954 and it is the biggest and oldest of the Canary Islands. Furthermore, in 2007 it was declared world heritage site by the UNESCO and from the same year on it formed part of the 12 tresures of Spain. In 2008 the Teide National Park counted 2,8 million visitors and was therefore the most visited national park of Europe, and the second most visited of the world.

The Teide in Tenerife is 3718 meters high and the third biggest volcano in the world. Whereas during the summer season the conditions are perfect for dicovering it's unique nature and for hiking, during the winter period it is lovely to the see the peak covert with snow while in the rest of Tenerife summer goes on. In order to get up to the top there is a teleferic which goes from 2300 meters up to 3600 within only a few minutes.

The flora and fauna of the Teide National Park is unique and summing up around 60 plants are originally from the Canary Islands, making the National Park a international tourist attraction.Especially for fans of photography the Teide National Park offers a unique ambience which can be discovered by different ways: There are organized walking tours, it's possible to go up by car or by jeep.
