Until the 60th Masca was conected to Santiago del Teide only with a small sand-street, but in the meanwhile a normal street has been built, connecting the small town with Santiago del Teide and Buenavista.

In the center of the village there is a small square with a church and there are different parts of the township spread over the different hillsides of the "Montes del Teno". Until the end of the 20th century the people living in Masca cultivated the best potatoes, onions and garlic of the Island.

Although it's a bit complicate to get to the little village the trip is definitely worth it. The visitor can enjoy already on the way the unique and impressive flora and fauna, and as soon as he arrives he will be astonished by the beauty of the Masca.

The bay of Mascais located more or less 3 walking hours away from the village and is popular due to it's history, as there was a pirates bay. Nevertheless, who wants to go down to the bay should thing about how to get back, as this is even more exhausting than going down. Sometimes boat trips are offered from the bay, with destination: Los Gigantes.
